Published purpose

The Project will explore how to optimize surfaces, interfaces and devices made from two dimensional (2D) semiconductors such as Molybdenum disulfide( MoS2), molybdenum-diselenide (MoSe2), tungsten disulfide (WS2), tungsten diselenide (WSe2) as well as graphene and boron nitride. These materials have tremendous promise for the development of applications such as optoelectronic devices, chemical and environmental sensors, or quantum technologies. However, to be used in real applications, one needs to first optimize their surface cleanliness, contact resistance or number of defects. The Project will combine scanning tunneling microscopy and device fabrication at the University of Ottawa with electrical and optical characterization at NRC with the goal of optimizing these materials for use in next-generation devices. The Project will also evaluate protocols for device fabrication that will optimize 2D materials.
