Published purpose

The Project supports the creation of a new technology platform, High- Performance Marine Computing Cluster (HPMCC), which will include 33 new nodes (1320 computer cores) and will be added to the Memorial University of Newfoundland's (MUN) existing 700-core cluster within the Department of Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering (ONAE) computing cluster. This increased computing capacity will be accessed by both NRC and MUN researchers together with a broader collaborative network that will support Ocean Supercluster (OSC) activities in the areas of green ship technologies to mitigate underwater noises from ships and to improve ship efficiency; simulations of harsh ocean environments, including large waves, ice and iceberg movements; safe operation of ships and offshore structures in harsh ocean environments; digital twins for operation and maintenance of ocean assets; and marine autonomous surface ships.
