Published purpose

PEI BioAlliance is leading the development of collaborative research facilities to address common manufacturing, fundamental R&D, and commercialization needs of companies in Canada’s bioscience sector. This Project will expand atypical fermentation equipment capabilities and will explore the use of various feedstocks and microorganisms on the development of value-added products. In support of the PIC Supercluster, via the Sustainable Protein Production program, activities will explore new markets and applications for total pulse production by evaluating the utility of pulse starch as an alternative fermentation feedstock to produce higher value products. In support of the Oceans Supercluster, through the Ocean Supercluster Support Program, other activities will explore cost-effective approaches to fermentation using marine anaerobic bacteria as novel sources of ingredients in the lucrative cosmetic and personal care market. The ultimate goal of the Project is to address gaps in Canada’s R&D infrastructure to build critical mass in atypical fermentation.
