Published purpose
Thyroid nodules are common in adults. Ultrasound is the first line of assessment for the stratification of risk of malignancy of thyroid nodules. Only 7% have palpable nodules but the prevalence increases to 30% on ultrasound examination. Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy is recommended for suspicious nodules, but these are costly and often inconclusive. This project aims to enhance the workflow of thyroid ultrasound using artificial intelligence by simplifying the acquisition and interpretation of thyroid ultrasound exam. This project enables novice users to perform the thyroid scans at the point of care, reduce the scan time and minimize the rate of False positives FNA suggestions.
