Published purpose

Volumetric video is currently captured as a sequence of topologically unrelated 3D meshes that represent a 3D surface and UV mapped textures that define the albedo (sometimes called diffuse colour) at each point of the surface. In modern real time 3D applications surface colour for the final image is calculated using a variety of material properties, such as smoothness, reflectivity and illuminativity defined for each point on the surfaces, a shading equation and defined virtual lights. It would be helpful to artistically touch up workflows if semantically related parts of the surface could be separated from one another to be given shared material properties, so that different materials, such as skin, hair, denim or silk could be rendered.
