Published purpose

The goal is to research, develop and operate a new and innovative process focused on the production of hydrogen and the reduction of atmospheric CO2 via ocean alkalinity enhancement. The Planetary Hydrogen OAC (Ocean Air Capture) technology allows for simultaneous alkalinity and sulfuric acid production in the form of diluted solutions. It is envisaged that these reagents could be used for commonly applied hydrometallurgical operations such as leaching and precipitation, respectively. The project tests a low-cost, low-energy method for extraction of valuable metals from mine tailings for the purposes of industrial decarbonization, legacy mine site remediation and climate change mitigation.
