Published purpose

The objective of the collaborative equipment contribution Project is to support the development a new “Advanced Marine Acoustics Laboratory”, which will act as technology platform enabling research in the advancement of computational tools for the prediction of noise on and from ships, and in monitoring underwater noise pollution from ships. The collaborative research resulting from the new advanced marine acoustics laboratory will include: the design of propellers improving ship efficiency and reducing noise pollution; the mitigation of environmental impact of ship operations; the improvement of safety on ships; the development of technology to reduce noise exposure of crew members; and the development of technology for monitoring anthropogenic underwater noise pollution. The new “Advanced Marine Acoustics Laboratory” will establish a technological platform for gaining insights related to noise generation and propagation from ships. This will be unique in Canada and attract researchers from industry, other universities and top performing graduate students.
