Published purpose
Gated quantum dots in III-V semiconductors provide a promising platform for the coherent transfer of quantum information between spins and photons, enabling polarization-sensitive sensing of single photons and thus leading to disruptive applications in quantum sensing, quantum communication, and distributed quantum computing. However, the design of quantum sensors based on quantum dots is complicated by the lack of appropriate simulation software capable to predict device performance and analyze experimental results. In the Project, Nanoacademic Technologies Inc. will expand its existing quantum-dot simulation software (QTCAD) to include features needed for the design of quantum sensors based on quantum dots and collaborate with NRC to benchmark the software against existing experimental results. Once the necessary new features are validated, Nanoacademic will use QTCAD to predict the performance of various quantum-sensing devices developed at NRC and help optimize their basic figures of merit for future experiments.
