Published purpose
The scope of this project is to investigate using oxygen as energy storage. Kanata is planning to investigate the technical feasibility of integrating renewable power with the Air Separation Unit and an oxygen combustion power plant, either direct fired (e.g., sCO2 Allam cycle by Net Power) or indirect fired (e.g., CO2 closed loop Brayton Cycle). The result would be an increased power output to the grid during high power demand and internal energy storage using oxygen tank during low demand. Different modes of operations are described in the attached diagrams. This is expected to provide an advantage as it would be able to convert the lower cost renewable power (which is intermittent in nature) to fully dispatchable 24/7 power
