Published purpose

The Project aims to optimize and implement a photon-number-resolving (PNR) single-photon detection system which will enable research and the underpinning for the metrological characterization of single-photon source for Canada. A key to achieving these aims is the development of a fast, efficient, and economically accessible PNR detection system. The project will develop and characterize superconducting nanowire-based PNR sensors by utilizing a specialized photoncounting technique, i.e. spatial/time multiplexing of an optical light field, that provides an excellent approximation of photon-number statistics in the aid of simple linear optics. The improved measurement precision of obtained photon correlation will be verified by comparing those measured with non-PNR detectors. The Project will contribute to the development of a physical standard singlephoton source based on a quantum dot emitter, thus facilitating the creation of standard measurement protocols by implementing PNR metrological characterization techniques.
