Published purpose
This collaboration focuses on the development of hybrid integrated InGaAs Geiger-mode avalanche photodiodes (GM-APDs) with a scalable CMOS readout for quantum imaging and communication applications. The project will create a scalable array of single-photon avalanche diodes implemented in InGaAs technology in a top-tier chip hybridized to a bottom-tier chip implemented in Si. The goal is to detect photons in the SWIR band with unprecedented signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at room temperature. The project will enable a large pixel formats similarly to visible cameras to improve novel solutions for quantum communication and imaging applications.
