Published purpose
Intracranial aneurysms are classified as saccular or fusiform in shape, while the saccular type are further divided into sidewall and bifurcation aneurysms. While metal flow-diverting stents are increasingly being used to treat sidewall aneurysms, they have poor occlusion rates for fusiform and bifurcation types. The Fluid Biomed (FB) stent is a novel hybrid metal and bioabsorbable polymer flow diverter designed to treat sidewall, bifurcation, and fusiform aneurysms. Evaluating the effectiveness of the FB stent in sidewall aneurysms was successfully completed in previous IRAP funded projects. In the present application, we validate use of the FB stent in a pre-clinical in vitro and in vivo study on bifurcation and fusiform aneurysms.
