Published purpose
The purpose of this study is to investigate the feasibility of casting UHPC in extreme cold weather in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut using chemical admixtures instead of hydrocarbons or expensive insulating blankets so construction can advance during the winter season in the Arctic. For this project several innovative tests will be performed to evaluate the properties and performance of cold weather concrete created with chemical admixtures. Cold weather concreting is a key barrier to the practical adoption of UHPC concrete technology in the arctic due to the lack of understanding of the how to optimize concrete mix and mixtures prior to casting UHPC in cold environments.
