Published purpose
This project develops and tests a pilot-scale Bioenergy Carbon Capture Marine Storage (BECCMS) system at Nova Scotia Community College’s (NSCC) Bridgewater Campus. The system uses Accelerated Weathering of Limestone (AWL) to capture biogenic CO2 emissions from a 250MW biomass boiler, converting it into bicarbonate for safe marine storage. Key goals include validating the technology’s efficiency (targeting TRL 5/6), optimizing limestone and water use, and preparing for scaled deployment. Collaborating with NSCC and Acfor Energy, the project advances carbon-negative energy solutions while supporting workforce training and coastal ecosystem health.
