Published purpose

The aim of the project is to develop new laboratory-based cathode materials olivine-based cathode materials as alternatives to lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. to benefit from the advantages of this technology, i.e. its low cost and proven safety. The project will also address the issue of the energy density limitations of low-voltage LFP cathodes. As part of this this Project, the Beneficiary and NRC will identify, synthesize synthesis, evaluation and characterization of olivine-based cathode materials olivine cathode materials of the LiMPO4 type, where M is a transition material of the same type as Fe, Mn, Co, Ni, or their combinations. Emphasis will be placed on stabilizing of the new high-voltage olivine cathode materials, by developing the surface coating, doping approaches and electrolyte formulations. electrolyte formulations demonstrating high-voltage stability. The teams will also assess the probability of scaling up the materials, and their materials, as well as their level of technological maturity with a view to industrialization.
