Published purpose
Heart failure is a devasting and chronic disease affecting an estimated 600,000 Canadians. It is characterized by episodes of severe shortness of breath and leg swelling resulting in frequent, prolonged hospital admissions and often high rate of hospital readmission. Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) symptoms are caused by pressure build-up within the heart. JVPLabs, in collaboration with the National Research Council, plans on developing a noninvasive home heart failure monitoring device that assesses key physiologic parameters important to the management of heart failure. The data collected by the JVPLabs device is transmitted to the heart failure clinical team enabling adjustment of medications that will keep the patient feeling well in the comfort of their own home.
