Published purpose

There is large market demand for THCA, a component of the cannabis plant and a well-known precursor of THC. Its popularity is due to the ease of calculating dosage amounts, its powder format and its availability to provide a round about way of producing high potency THC (>98%). The current method of THCA preparation, requires a C1D1 (Class 1 Division 1 safety requirements) extraction environment and is therefore capital-intensive, high risk and difficult when trying to achieve scale-up. The objective of this project is to develop a new procedure to extract THCA (Phase I) and to scale to commercial production (Phase II). Key activities for phase I of the project, will include process development, optimization, refinement and testing.
