Published purpose

This Project aims to evaluate the environmental and economic benefits of modular construction—particularly using offsite wood—for mid- to high-rise buildings in Canada. It will identify key opportunities and barriers to adoption, including gaps in data, ethodological uncertainties, and limited sector familiarity with modular approaches across building typologies. Drawing on international best practices, especially from the UK, the Projectwill develop a national dataset and a consistent methodology for conducting whole-building life cycle carbon assessments (WBLCCAs) that enable fair comparison with traditional construction. Outcomes include a robust evidence base to support informed decision-making, sector training through publications and white papers, and the development of in-country expertise through collaboration with the National Research Council (NRC) and academic partners
