Published purpose

The Victoria location utilizes salt water wells to supply water to both groups of biology: Halibut and Wolffish. This water is used in the rearing of broodstock, egg fertilization, yolk sac, egg incubation, first feed, nursery and grow out. Each segment of the operation requires strict control of variables to replicate environment seen in the wild. AMAR and its partners in both Iceland and Norway have been tracking the growth rates and health of fish and comparing this to operations in PEI. PEI shows inferior growth rates primarily due to water temperature. This project is a strategic effort to locate the coldest water on the site by expanding it coldest well and studying impact on growth rates and overall fish health.
