Published purpose
The nanowire quantum dot photon emitter platform has reached a level of maturity where architectures for scalable entanglement distribution can be considered. To harness and deploy entangled photons in future quantum networks, components for tuning, routing, and encoding them at cryogenic temperatures are required. The project involves an on-chip solution based on actuated microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) coupled to optical systems. MEMS tailored for compatibility with the nanowire geometry will be designed to efficiently tune the dielectric environment of photonic structures such as waveguides. This process can enable a wide variety of devices such as path-entanglement encoders, quantum gates, and nanobeam cavities for nanowire emission enhancement. Foundry processing will be developed to fabricate devices in both the Si and SiN platforms. NRC’s capabilities in nanopositioning will be used for integrating the MEMS - nanowire components. This work will be an important resource in the evelopment of architectures for wide-scale entanglement distribution
