This project aims to enhance the decision-making of United Nations (UN) officials, and member states to address barriers hindering the meaningful participation of uniformed women in UN peace operations. This three-year project seeks to accomplish this by combining original research, policy analysis and outreach, and strategic engagement. Project activities include: (1) analyzing gender bias that may exist in recruitment, training, workplace culture and dynamics, promotions, and deployments, and recommending strategies to decrease these biases; (2) examining ways to combat key barriers to women’s meaningful participation in peace operations, with a specific focus on issues of sexual harassment, discrimination, and assault; and (3) connecting researchers, practitioners, and uniformed women from UN member states to collaborate on research and recommend actionable solutions.
