This initiative is a key element of the assistance provided by Canada to contribute to Mali reaching its development goals in the health sector, particularly in improving maternal, newborn and child health. It mainly aims to support the Ministry of Health of Mali in implementing is Ten-Year Health and Social Development Plan 2014-2023. As is the case for all budget support initiatives, Canada is working closely with other donors and the Government of Mali to improve the emphasis on accountability, transparency and effectiveness of national systems by increasing coordination and harmonization among donors and strengthening mutual accountability. Budgetary support also fosters greater policy dialogue between donors, government and partners, which helps to reinforce efforts to provide targeted and effective help and get results from long-term development. Monitoring and continuous evaluation of this initiative are made in conjunction with other donors.
