November 2024 – Conflict, armed violence, deepening poverty, and inadequate services have severely worsened protection environments in Yemen, Lebanon, and Syria. In Yemen, more than 16 million individuals require protection services, with over 6.36 million women and girls at heightened risk of various forms of GBV, including harmful traditional practices. In Lebanon, the October 2024 Lebanon Flash Appeal identifies 1 million people needing humanitarian assistance, with requirements estimated at $425.7 million, of which $38.4 million are WASH needs. In Syria, 14 years of conflict and protracted crisis have left 15.3 million Syrians requiring protection support, with 8.5 million people in urgent need of GBV assistance, 93% of whom are women and girls. With GAC’s support, Oxfam Quebec aims to reduce suffering and improve protection outcomes for 170,942 individuals in Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. Project activities include: (1) providing lifesaving essential services that address protection needs to crisis-affected population; (2) developing community-led protection strategies and action plans, incorporating gender-sensitive analysis and local stakeholder engagement; (3) extending and rehabilitating existing water supply systems; (4) providing training and support mechanisms to enhance local women's leadership in and influence over humanitarian response; (5) providing hygiene kits to women and girls of reproductive age for displaced and host communities.
