The project “Situated Knowledge and Mobility for Sustainable Engagement in the Indo-Pacific”, led by the Université de Montréal, aims to strengthen the research and study capacities of Canadian students, researchers, and faculty in the Indo-Pacific by funding fieldwork placements that generate knowledge grounded in local realities. Focused on Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia, the project is organized around 4 thematic clusters: sustainable cities in Southeast Asia; globalization and risks associated with digital and territorial transformations; socio-political equity and ecological transition in the context of a mining boom; and geopolitics and diplomacy in the Indo-Pacific in light of regional dynamics and China’s influence. The program plans to award 42 grants between 2025 and 2028, including 24 study grants lasting approximately 6 months and 18 research grants lasting up to 4 months, fostering contextualized expertise and enhanced international cooperation.
