Objet publié

This project aims to share best practices and understand the relations between museum professionals, Indigenous communities, and the public in Canada, Japan, and Taiwan. The University of Ottawa implements this project, with 2 Indo-Pacific collaborators: the National Museum of Ethnology (Minpaku) in Osaka, Japan and the National Museum of Prehistory in Taitung, Taiwan. The project involves 3 international workshops in Canada, Japan, and Taiwan over 3 years. In Year 1 (2025 to 2026), a survey of museums identifies Indigenous objects from other countries, followed by a conference and museum visits in Canada. In Year 2 (2026 to 2027), a workshop takes place at Minpaku in Japan, along with museums visits, and outreach events in Hokkaido. In Year 3 (2027 to 2028), the final workshop is held in Taiwan, with museum tours and community visits. After the workshops, participants will submit a report that includes historical information, existing best practices, and recommendations for implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
