This project supports Nigeria’s Joint Health Development Technical Assistance Fund (JHDTAF), a pooled mechanism that finances and coordinates technical assistance to strengthen health systems governance and service delivery. It supports the Government of Nigeria’s health reform agenda under the National Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII) and its sector wide approach (SWAp) by strengthening the capacity of federal and state institutions to plan, finance, manage, and deliver health services efficiently and sustainably across Nigeria’s 36 states. The project enables timely access to demand driven technical assistance aligned with national and state priorities. Project activities include: (1) establishing and operationalizing a nationally-led technical assistance coordination framework (TACRA) within the Federal Ministry of Health; (2) supporting a multi stakeholder Technical Assistance Committee to set priorities, approve and oversee technical assistance, and promote transparency and accountability; (3) establishing and operating a Technical Assistance Management Unit to develop terms of reference, match the supply of technical assistance with demand, manage procurement and deployment, and track results; and (4) strengthening federal and state institutional capacity for health planning, financing, governance, and service delivery through targeted, demand driven technical assistance. The project is expected to benefit federal and state health institutions across 36 states of Nigeria by improving coordination, efficiency and accountability in health system support. Over time, these improvements are expected to contribute to more equitable, sustainable and effective delivery of priority health services for the Nigerian population.
