This project is part of the Technical Assistance and Aid Effectiveness Project (TAAEP) project. It aims to deploy short-and long-term specialist advisory resources, provide targeted technical assistance, and mainstream gender equality in key areas and sectors in Tanzania. Global Affairs Canada (GAC) collaborates with the Government of Tanzania, civil society, and other donors to identify, manage, and effectively implement technical assistance. The technical assistance aims to improve aid effectiveness across all GAC programming areas. Types of technical needs supported include: (1) gender-sensitive strategic planning; (2) evidence-based policy research and development; (3) policy dialogue; (4) monitoring and evaluation; (5) public expenditure tracking; (6) public consultations; (7) targeted and special audits; (8) strengthened procurement and audit systems; (9) gender budgeting; (10) strengthened intergovernmental linkages; (11) budget consultations; (12) donor coordination; (13) research and analysis; (14) communications; (15) provision of resources for studies; and (16) workshops and training for the Government of Tanzania and civil society partners engaged in GAC’s programming areas. This TAAEP sub-project consist in a grant to the World Health Organization (WHO) to implement the Integrated Diseases Surveillance and Response (IDSR) guidelines in Tanzania. Project activities include: (1) supporting the implementation of the 3rd edition of the IDSR guidelines, specifically training of event-based surveillance in Mainland Tanzania; (2) facilitating the quarterly meetings of the IDRS Expert Working Group established to oversee the implementation of the IDSR strategy; (3) producing and distributing the IDSR tools; and (4) supporting the implementation of the electronic IDSR within the District Health Information System 2.
