This project contributes to increasing the school completion rate of girls and adolescent girls between the ages of 10 and 18, mainly in the Tonkpi, Tchologo and Bounkani regions and the Abidjan district in Côte d’Ivoire. This is achieved through increased access to education for girls and adolescent girls, including those with a handicap, and the provision of gender-sensitive, safe and inclusive education. The project also allows adolescent girls who have dropped out of school to access the education system through vocational training in order to ensure a sustainable future. Project activities include: (1) producing and broadcasting the television program Voices of Youth to promote girls’ right to education and to engage communities in advocating for this right; (2) building and rehabilitating latrines and changing rooms in primary and secondary schools so that girls feel safe; (3) training teachers on gender and active pedagogy to take gender needs into account; (4) supporting vocational and technical training institutions in providing and promoting training for out-of-school adolescent girls in non-traditional fields; and (5) institutionalizing the Individualized Support Plan which aims to diagnose the causes of academic underperformance and to implement appropriate remedial measures. This initiative contributes to Canada's G7 commitment in support of women and girls’ education in crisis and conflict situations.
