This grant represents Canada’s long-term institutional support to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). OHCHR uses these funds and other donors’ funding to achieve its mandate. OHCHR's mandate is to promote and protect the enjoyment and full realization, by all people, of all rights established in the Charter of the United Nations and international human rights laws and treaties. The mandate includes: (1) preventing human rights violations; (2) securing respect for all human rights; (3) promoting international cooperation to protect human rights; (4) coordinating related activities throughout the United Nations; and (5) strengthening and streamlining the United Nations system in the field of human rights.
