The goal of this project is to ensure that women and girls are better protected from violence, exploitation, and abuse in the eastern provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The project contributes to reducing sexual violence by helping to fight impunity for the perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence and promoting measures to prevent these crimes. Fighting impunity includes strengthening and expanding judicial services, improving the processes for investigating and prosecuting crimes involving sexual violence, and increasing the knowledge, skills, and independence of judges and court officials. The project engages local communities in helping to prevent sexual and gender-based violence. It also helps to improve the medical and psychosocial services provided to survivors. Finally, it helps survivors earn a living at activities that also benefit their community.
