The Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) is an initiative launched by the World Bank (WB), in partnership with the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction and in support of the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action. The GFDRR pursues its objectives at global, regional, and country levels, and addresses disasters before they strike and after the fact. This project contributes to Track II: country-led deliverables, which supports the provision of technical assistance to high-risk developing countries to mainstream disaster risk reduction in their development policies, planning, and programming, particularly via Poverty Reduction Strategies. Resources are made available to the WB and UN country teams as well as other partners in countries where strategic documents, such as poverty reduction strategies, country strategies or national plans are being developed, as these provide an opportunity to systematically assess disaster risks and develop mitigation strategies as an integral element of development programs/projects.
