This project is part of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) International Aboriginal Youth Internships (IAYI) initiative. The internships focus on increasing the awareness, engagement, and participation of Aboriginal youth in international development, while providing them with opportunities to expand their employment skills. The IAYI initiative is funded through DFATD’s Global Citizens Program. The initiative proposed by L'AMIE will send six Aboriginal interns to Madagascar to work with L’AMIE’s partner, the Association Sarobidy. Through basic education activities, the interns work at securing the future of children and youth (girls and boys, young women and young men), in the community of Antehiroka. The project focuses on three types of beneficiaries: the Canadian interns; the Association Sarobidy’s team members; and, the children hosted by the Association. The project contributes to increasing the employability of young Aboriginal women and men, by providing them with the skills and knowledge they need to gain employment or to pursue their studies.
