This project supports the development and implementation of a strategy to strengthen biosafety and biosecurity in East Africa. It does so through support for multi-sectoral collaboration and the development of partnerships between the Biorisk Management Association of Kenya, the Biosafety & Biosecurity Association of Uganda, African Union, national government and relevant international partners. Project activities included: (1) identifying capacity gaps in biosecurity in East Africa; (2) delivering capacity and financial assessment of the Biorisk Management Association of Kenya; and (3) training and providing certificates to 40 professionals on biorisk management, biological waste management, biosecurity, biocontainment facility design, operations and maintenance, and biosafety cabinet installation and use.
