This project supported a US $1.9-billion Government of Bangladesh initiative to improve the quality of primary education by strengthening the capacity of formal primary education systems and institutions. It improved organizational capacity, infrastructure, and the quality of and access to schooling for six- to ten-year-old children. It assisted the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education in the achievement of the first stage of the government’s National Plan of Action for Education for All. The Second Primary Education Development Program (PEDP II) is supported by 11 donors with a total contribution of US$689 million.
