The Ethiopia Strategy Support Program (Phase I) was a multi-donor research, capacity strengthening and knowledge management program conceived jointly by the Government of Ethiopia, the International Food Policy Research Institute, and the international donor community. The biggest focus of the program was on improving the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of a broad national framework for pro-poor rural development. The first of the program’s main objectives focused on the creation of key policy research results, in order to fill knowledge gaps and help strengthen the design and implementation of Ethiopia’s rural development strategy. The second related to the development of a stronger and more integrated knowledge support system to help underpin future food policy analysis and inform key rural development strategy decisions. The third objective was the strengthening of Ethiopian policy research institutions through collaboration in applied policy research, targeted training programs, and collaborative engagement. The final objective was to contribute to the design and implementation of a national monitoring and evaluation system to track progress and provide feedback on the how the strategy and its implementation can be improved. All CIDA disbursements for this project have been completed.
