This project seeks to improve the quality of pre-primary, primary, and secondary education in Guatemala. As such it works to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Ministry of Education, especially with regards to bilingual education. Students receive a bilingual education in Spanish and one of the several Mayan languages, as the majority of the Guatemalan population is of Mayan origin. The project also works with youth at risk in order to provide them with study and job training opportunities as alternatives to street life. This project builds on initiatives undertaken in Guatemala through the Central America Rural Development Fund.
