The project aims to utilize emerging technologies in protected agricultural practices and modern technologies in marine fisheries to improve production of crops and fish production in Jamaica. The project is also intended to improve the technical skills of green house farmers and fishermen as well as various industry stakeholders to ensue the sustainability and development of the green house and fisheries subsectors within the agriculture industry. The project's expected outcomes are to: 1)increase the productivity and the sustainable production of high quality vegetables to meet the demands of the Jamaican market; 2) rehabilitate six basic infrastructures and partial reef; and 3) improve fisheries and environment management practices of fisherfolk in six regions demonstrated to other fisheries cooperative members in Jamaica. The project is divided into two components: green house modern technologies and marine fisheries; and is being funded by CIDA, the Government of Jamaica and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture.
