In collaboration with the World Bank and UKAid, CIDA supports the World Bank's Punjab Education Development Project, which aims to improve equitable access, quality and governance in basic education in the province of Punjab. There are two components to this project, the first supports the implementation of selected programs and activities of the government's Punjab Education Sector Reform Program (PESRP) and the second provides technical assistance and capacity building support to strengthen implementation and monitoring of the sector program. The support to the PESRP includes: (i) a program of in-service teacher training and professional development; (ii) performance-linked incentives for schools; (iii) a stipend program for girls; (iv) a program promoting public-private partnerships; (v) salaries of teachers and other sector staff; (vi) capacity building for school councils; (vii) funding support for school councils; (viii) capacity building for district management; and (ix) the operation of the project management and implementation unit (PMIU) of Punjab's School Education Department.
