In recent years, a large number of people have returned to South Sudan and reintegration of returnees places a strain on already weak infrastructure and basic services. This initiative seeks to improve socio-economic conditions amongst returnees, internally displaced persons, and local community members in three states of South Sudan. In Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, the project provides male and female youth with vocational training and livelihoods opportunities, and women with adult literacy, numeracy and life skills training. In Upper Nile and Unity states, teachers receive English, pedagogical, and gender equality training to equip them to teach the education curriculum. By increasing employment for both youth and skilled teachers, the project contributes to the overarching goal to build up the capacity of civil society and government institutions to respond to the education and livelihood needs of the people.
