This is one component of a project coordinated by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO that aims to directly support over 10,000 families displaced by the conflict in Northern Sri Lanka in rebuilding their agricultural livelihoods. The FAO component provides farm families with agricultural inputs (fruit tree seedlings and saplings, cattle, and goats), as well as technical assistance and training, to help them expand and improve their agricultural production. The project targets groups of farmers and farm organizations, including coconut and fruit tree growers and dairy livestock (cattle and goats) producers. The project also works with fishing communities in Mullaitivu District to increase fishery production and income through improvements to fish landing sites and other fishery infrastructure. The project focusses on the three northernmost districts of Sri Lanka (Jaffna, Kilinochchi, and Mullaitivu), which suffered significant damage, particularly during the final stage of the conflict.
