Objet publié
February 13, 2013 - Since early January 2013, heavy rains across the southern Africa region have resulted in widespread flooding. In Mozambique, which has been hit the hardest, the torrential rains have caused the destruction of houses, schools, health centres, and crops and forced affected populations to leave their homes in search of safer areas. With CIDA support, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is helping to distribute emergency shelter kits and essential non-food items to affected populations and will assist with recovery and rebuilding efforts for households and communities, when they are able to return home. Along with the Mozambican Red Cross, IOM is the co-lead of the shelter response to this crisis. It is providing overall coordination for the effort and will manage the purchase of essential supplies (shelter kits and non-food items) to be used by other response partners.
