Objet publié

March 2013 - Over the last two years, the conflict in Syria has escalated and triggered refugee flows across the region. Hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees have fled to Jordan and require humanitarian assistance. With CIDA support, Save the Children Canada provides urgently needed access to education and psychosocial support to 9,000 Syrian refugee and Jordanian children living in stressed host communities. Through this project, 30 public schools are supported through small-scale rehabilitation and the provision of essential supplies in order to provide safe and nurturing educational environments for all students, including the newly arrived Syrian children. Save the Children Canada also provides cash grants to 1,650 Syrian vulnerable families, conditional on school enrollment and retention in order to reduce the severe economic strain currently faced by Syrian refugee families. Finally, children’s coping mechanisms and resiliency are enhanced by creating Alternate Learning Spaces in all 30 schools and training education providers on psychosocial support to help children deal with the trauma and loss experienced by the current conflict.
