The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) is an innovative tool for improving food security analysis and decision-making. It is a standardised scale that integrates food security, nutrition and livelihood information into a clear statement about the nature and severity of a crisis and implications for strategic response. The IPC is developed and applied by a consortium of eight major UN agencies and international NGOs: Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Food Programme (WFP), Famine Early Warning System Network, funded by USAID (FEWSNET), Oxfam GB, Save the Children US/UK, CARE International, and the European Commission Joint Research Centre. The IPC multi-agency partnership works towards developing and applying true international standards for food security analysis and towards the strengthening of the IPC at global, regional and national level, including thorough technical review.
