Objet publié

21 March 2011 - On January 12, 2010, a massive earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale rocked Port-au-Prince, the capital of the impoverished Caribbean nation of Haiti. It is estimated that up to 3 million people have been affected by the disaster, many of whom require ongoing humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs. With support from CIDA, Save the Children Canada contributes to reducing maternal, infant and child mortality through the provision of integrated emergency health and nutrition services to displaced people residing in Delmas, Carrefour and Port-au-Prince communes. Specifically, the project aims to staff and provide medical equipment to six health clinics in camps. Staff receives training on HMIS (health information management system), disease surveillance and drug management protocols to support emergency response capacity to implement the expanded program for immunization, integrated management of newborn and childhood illnesses, and lifesaving essential maternal and newborn care and resuscitation. Finally, the project provides support to integrated community management of acute malnutrition units in the six health clinics.
