The Enhanced Emergency Disaster Assistance Fund (EDAF) is a draw-down fund administered by the Canadian Red Cross Society (CRCS) that allows for timely, efficient, and effective Canadian support to International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) emergency operations in response to small and medium scale humanitarian situations. The Enhanced EDAF automatically disburses funds to support IFRC emergency operations when specific criteria are met, following concurrence from DFATD. The Enhanced EDAF disbursement would be direct cash support and/or the purchase of emergency relief supplies from IFRC and CRCS regional hubs. Additionally, with the Enhanced EDAF, the CRCS is continuing to manage Canada's stockpile of emergency relief supplies based in Mississauga, Ontario. This stockpile is comprised of basic relief items, such as tents, tarps, jerry cans, and kitchen sets, and is designed to meet the basic needs of crisis- affected populations. When items are needed to assist populations affected by humanitarian situations, Canada, supported by the CRCS, provides the supplies to experienced humanitarian partners who have the on-the-ground capacity to deliver the relief items to affected populations most in need.
