This two-year multi-funding agencies project, for which CCNB is seeking funding from NRC for its first year of operation, aims to evaluate residual stress mitigation and distortion control strategies employed by metal fabrication companies located in Atlantic Canada and Québec. Latest technologies in this field, such as welding stress simulation and ultrasonic peening, will be applied to demonstrate the potential improvements in manufacturing economy and integrity of the products. The concepts will be proved in the lab using coupons, where applicable, and a detailed report with recommendations will be provided to the partner companies so that they can integrate the changes in their processes.
