The automotive industry faces significant economic and environmental challenges associated with the electrification of transport and the need to improve vehicle fuel efficiency. As a result, there has been a surge in demand in recent years for lighter components to help reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from conventional combustion engine vehicles and to improve the range of electric vehicles. However, despite significant advances, the industry is still looking for more cost-effective solutions for the large-scale production of lightweight components. Thermoplastic metal-composite hybrids are one of the most promising alternatives for manufacturing lightweight, cost-effective components. Hybrid parts made from steel and advanced thermoplastic composites, for example, combine high mechanical performance with low weight. However, solutions must be developed to enable these components to be recycled after their service life. Accordingly, this project focuses on developing processes for separating and recovering the materials used to manufacture hybrid components that have reached the end of their service life.
