Published purpose

The Town proposes to construct a separated walkway adjacent to the newly constructed Memorial Roundabout at the intersection of Memorial Road and Highway 19A to create separation for pedestrians and cyclists and minimize conflicts. The Town has invested heavily in active transportation networks over the years, especially those that connect the uptown and waterfront. The Memorial / 19A route is pivotal to this connection. It is heavily traveled by visitors and residents throughout the year, and all traffic must travel through the newly created roundabout to reach their destination. It is also the first experience of the waterfront for tourists, and acts as the gateway to our prized beach. A separated walkway and viewing platform therefore brings cohesion to the Town’s active transportation investments in this area, and will increase safety, accessibility, and ultimately increase usage
