Published purpose
"The 6th Street Active Transportation Bridge Project will create a new, four-metre wide river crossing dedicated to cyclists, pedestrians and other people-powered transportation - connecting key pathways and services in the community, and creating a safe, accessible alternative route to encourage non-motorized transportation. The symmetrical cable-stayed bridge will create connections between the existing Courtenay Riverway Trail in downtown Courtenay and Simms Millennium Park – creating expanding networks to recreation facilities, businesses and services on both sides of the Courtenay River for people of all ages and abilities. The bridge will meet the Province of BC’s Active Transportation Guidelines, with no more than a five per cent grade, ensuring accessibility for all."
