Published purpose
The Cedarwood Sanitary Pump Station was constructed in 1972 and services an area totaling in approximately 920 hectares within the Town of Tecumseh. The pumping station is currently equipped with screw pumps which have been in service for over 50 years and require replacement in the near future. Climate change related to increasing rainfall events have had significant impacts on the region, including rising water levels in Lake St. Clair. Over the last ten years, the Cedarwood drainage area has been experiencing an increase in basement flooding cases during severe storm events. The implementation of the project will address multiple issues identified within the existing pumping station to improve its efficiency and performance and mitigate the risk of basement flooding within the service area.
